Through the eye of the lens

My good friend, Liz Fairchild, is a genius with the camera.  Her photos have an intimacy and vulnerability that few can capture.  Visit her site and see for yourself:  http://lizfairchildphotography.smugmug.com/

Last month, Liz and I met at the Western Pacific Railroad Museum http://www.wplives.org/.  This place is a treasure trove of images, textures, and colors.

Liz handed me a camera, reminded me of the basics, then set me loose.  Here are a few of my favorite shots:

Ed is a volunteer at the museum.

Thanks, Liz.  I had a great day!

My new home at Gypsy Wools

I am pleased to announce that my patterns will be available at the amazing Gypsy Wools http://www.gypsywools.com

Located in Boulder, Colorado, this shop features yarns and fibers, needlepoint and embroidery supplies.  Not just any yarns, fibers and supplies, but really, really nice yarns, fibers and supplies.  You must see the luster of Barb Day's small batch yarns, the eye-popping color of her hand-dyed lots, and some really fun photos of the sheep and goats who provide the wool for this magical store.

It's an honor to know that my patterns will be part of the inventory and I hope to do justice this excellent opportunity.

Cross stitch designers share fun patterns

I've been quite busy these last few weeks, stitching up Christmas ornaments.  In the past I have used only my own designs, but frankly, I'm bored with me.  So I googled free patterns and came up with some really great stuff!  Here are just a few examples:

The finishing method is super easy with no sewing needed!  Find the method at http://lena-lou12.blogspot.com/

Jessica Tromp has scads of adorable cross stitch patterns that are easy and fun.  Check 'em out!

Find all kinds of Christmas patterns at Cyberstitchers:  http://cyberstitchers.com/   That's where I found the snowman in the black hat.

Katherine Martin Tripp has some lovely patterns at www.better-cross-stitch-patterns.com.  Well worth the visit.

Thanks to all the talented designers who share their work with stitchers all over the world!

Non-Partisan Reporting

The time has come for Americans to unite, to put aside our differences and start working together to make our country strong again.

In that spirit, it is up to us to encourage the media to drop the (R) and (D) behind elected officials names in all reporting. A line in the sand is drawn each time we are reminded of someone's political leaning, and is only sets the stage for contention.

Without political affiliation to distract us, we will be more open to the ideas being shared, and find that we have much more in common that we thought.

Non-partisan reporting can heal the rift.

Tell your news media to drop the party affiliation when reporting the news.
